becoming a light

meet melissa

Melissa spent most of her career in corporate America working in various human resources and leadership roles. She has been married for seventeen years and together they are raising two daughters. Like many working mothers, she struggled to balance work and home life, and sought opportunities to be at home with her daughters. During this time, she questioned many areas of her life, including her relationship with God. After being laid off, she felt broken. She went into a depression that she hid so well, even her husband was unaware.

In order to become the person God intended her to be, she had to admit some painful truths about how she became broken. She spent many years living as a believer, but not following Jesus. God surrounded her by Christian women during this period that helped her grow in her faith. She woke up earlier so she could spend time in prayer every morning before she worked. She and her husband saw profound changes in their marriage, by inviting Jesus into their relationship and having deeper conversations with their daughters about their faith. After being laid off and experiencing deep pain, God blessed her with an opportunity to work from home, which allowed her to connect more with her daughters and have more time with God.

In 2020, God stirred something new in her heart. She felt like God was calling her to be a light during such a dark time, which seemed too big for her to accomplish on her own. She continued to pray to ask for clarity and guidance. In early 2021, God answered. The answer was unexpected and terrifying, but she obediently answered the call, and her life was better than she could have ever expected.
